'The most national is the most global', Goethe
Hyon Hee Cho Hartberger's work represents 'the most Korean is the most global' and rejects cultural chauvinism. The unique characteristics of Korea have resonated with foreigners, and her work has been recognized with explosive interest.
She currently resides in New York and is actively working between studios in Berlin and South Korea. With her roots in traditional Korean art, she expanded to contemporary art at Long Island University in New York and received an MFA.
Currently, she is capturing the attention of viewers with her youthful sensibility by incorporating Korean energy into unique characters and expressing the other side of human happiness and sadness with Korean emotions and soul. She implements various visual images of Korean typography in funky yet familiar colorways. She is able to create new meanings by creating a conversation of words and images of humans, animals, nature, and urban landscapes.
