About SPACE G NY
Located at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, Space G NY Residency supports emerging and established artists through studio practice, creative research, and exhibition opportunities. The program fosters cross-cultural exchange and artistic innovation, providing a dynamic environment for artists to develop new work and engage with the New York art community. Residents benefit from access to professional studio space, curatorial guidance, and the opportunity to showcase their work in public exhibitions.
To discover and support outstanding artists, two art professionals have come together to develop this space as a project-based platform.
Director Grace Yeonsook Ji, who graduated from Ewha Womans University and completed her graduate studies at Pratt Institute, began her career at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She later founded her own gallery and has dedicated over 40 years to the art world.
She has exhibited alongside leading figures of her time such as Kim Tschang-yeul, Shin Sung-hee, Kwak Hoon, and Kim Kulim, while actively promoting art through media and broadcast platforms.
As a former board member of KAFA US, she has curated over 300 exhibitions and participated in numerous international art fairs.
More recently, she conceived and published a documentary photo book featuring first-generation Korean artists in the United States.
Assistant Director Nam Minju graduated from Ewha Womans University and spent 25 years studying and working in Paris. She later served as a professor at Kyung Hee University’s graduate school.
She also held the position of director at the Shim Museum in Korea, led major cultural events such as the 130th anniversary of France–Korea diplomatic relations, and introduced exhibitions of internationally renowned artists, including James Turner, to Korea.
Mana Contemporary is a museum-scale institution located in Jersey City, with additional locations in Chicago and Miami. The campus is home to galleries associated with major figures such as Andy Warhol, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, and Richard Meier. It also houses organizations including Netflix and the Whitney Museum of American Art, along with over 250 artist studios. The presence of institutions such as the Monira Foundation further enriches this dynamic environment dedicated to supporting and promoting artists.
Moving forward, this space aims to serve as a platform for artists who are actively engaged in both exhibition and practice. Through collaboration with Mana Contemporary, it seeks to create broader and more meaningful opportunities for artistic exchange and presentation.
